Englisch | Children's classics in literature and their adaptions
Inhalte und Zielsetzung des W-Seminars:
Among all the various types of literature, it is children’s literature that is probably most varied, best loved and most well-known across countries. Selected examples of this category will demonstrate, how childhood has been defined, controlled and appreciated in different times and countries. This seminar will look at various children’s classics throughout the history, focussing on books published in the UK and US. Aiming at including a historical overview, both early children literature, reaching back into the sixteenth century, comics and colour picture books, and more recent classics by J.R.R. Tolkien, Roald Dahl or J.K.Rowling will be discussed and analysed in their historical contexts. Furthermore, selected pieces of literature will be compared with their adaption in film and theatre.
